UK citizens will have to wait till first quarter of next year for the opening of Best Buy’s first store in the UK.

Best Buy Europe, which is the joint venture between Carphone Warehouse and US electrical giant, was scheduled to open its first store in the UK this year. The revised plan is to open 4 more stores in quick succession next year.

Best Buy Europe has hired services of deVere Forster, who served at rival DSGi as head of e-commerce.

The news about rescheduling of opening came on the day DSGi, owner of PC World and Currys, announced its plan on the pan European electrical group’s turnaround and about combating threat from Best Buy Europe.

Best Buy Europe believes that launch of 4 to 5 stores in quick succession early next year would maximise impact on rivals as well as customers. It preferred delayed roll out to take advantage of property downturn in buying better sites and boosting its e-commerce operation launch during that period.

Meantime rival DSGi also plans to open 5 more Currys Megastores by end of 2009. It would be spending over £320 million on capital expenditure projects in next 2 years. Its transformation programme to deliver 3 to 4% return on sales is reported to be on track.
